The Big Pine Fire, started on September 6 near the Big Pine Campground on Big Pine Road 20 miles west of Pineville, has grown to 5,815 acres. High winds from the East aligning with the topography of Pine Valley Canyon caused rapid fire spread to the West. Resources are constructing indirect fire line on the West end of the valley with the goal of full suppression of the fire. Aerial resources are also working the flanks of the fire to prevent fire spread over the valley slopes.

Incident Description | The fire has been spreading westward through the valley floor through mixed forest and dry meadows. Fire crews, air tankers and helicopters are working to keep the fire within the valley and to stop forward spread by constructing fire line on the west end of the valley. They will burn out vegetation between that line and the fire front to create a wide line with no flammable vegetation. Winds are expected to decrease, which will help to achieve this goal. |
